DAF Day Programme

DAF's Day Programme was developed in 2004 as an alternative to full-time residential treatment.  It was recognised that there were many people living in London with addiction problems who were unable to engage in full-time treatment for months at a time, including women with childcare issues or clients unable to be absent from work. The programme has also become a preferred option for statutory referrers for client in the criminal justice system on a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR).

Through the content and approach of the programme, DAF is able to provide support for a range of client needs such as post-treatment aftercare, post-detox support, community reintegration support for clients leaving prison or as a primary intervention for individuals seeking support in maintaining personal commitment to achieving relief from active addiction.

Content of the Programme

Clients on the DAF Day Programme attend over approximately twelve weeks, during which time they will access 36 mornings of group sessions, ten one-to-one counselling sessions and two case review sessions. Clients will also have access to complementary therapy sessions.

The group-work aspect of the programme runs on three mornings per week and provides group therapy, structured workshops, educational sessions and gender work. DAF also facilitates sessions by programme graduates and other members of the outside community who are further along in the process of recovery. By combining a therapeutic approach with psycho-education workshops, clients have the opportunity to engage in a holistic approach to their recovery.

Clients will complete a number of written 'homework' assignments during the twelve weeks, examining the contributory and consequential aspects of their history of drug/alcohol use. In addition, clients have one-to-one counselling sessions with a Day Programme staff member who is their nominated focal counsellor.

It is an expectation of the programme that clients show open-mindedness and a willingness to avail themselves of the free and widespread support available within the Twelve-Step fellowships.

In order to attend the DAF Day Programme, all clients but be a minimum of 24 hours free of drugs and/or alcohol. All clients are required to commit to total abstinence during the time they are attending the programme.
